Why Take Shotokan?

Shotokan Karate is a traditional martial arts style based from Okinawa and Japan.  The founder of Shotokan is Gichin Funakoshi.  Anyone can learn it!  The training teaches discipline, character, confidence, physical and mental strength, and most importantly self-defense.  There is no preliminary training required. 

Costs, Fees, & Incentives

- $70.00 per month (no contract).  SPECIAL:  Newcomers get the first two months at half off at $35 a month!  There are 8 one hour classes per month.  Payments are due by the first Monday of each month.  There is a $10 late fee after the 5th of each month.

- $35.00 for uniform (gi) and white belt. 

- Rank test fees vary depending on level.

- Family, military, and police discounts available!

- Come by the center, watch a class!  You may take two classes for free!

Sensei Seth Sullivan

 

Seth Sullivan has been training in the art of Shotokan Karate for many years.  He has trained in Magee, Madison, Petal, Laurel, Hattiesburg, and now in Sumrall, Mississippi.  He is a resident of Waynesboro and currently serves as the Minister for the Waynesboro Church of Christ in Waynesboro, MS.  He has participated in several tournaments both state-wide and nationally.  A few of his accomplishments include:

  • State Champion in Kata in the Mississippi Karate Association

  • State Champion in Kumite in the Mississippi Karate Association

  • National Champion in Kobudo in the Amateur Athletic Union

 

Sensei Joseph Linton also assists in teaching.

Rank System:

Rank is determined by color belt. The belt system is as follows: White, white with stripe; Yellow; Orange; Blue; Green; Purple; Brown (3rd kyu), brown (2nd kyu), brown, (1st kyu); Black (Yudansha).
